A capsule wardrobe
built for Queensland

The capsule wardrobes you see on Pinterest were designed for climates with four real seasons. Here's how the concept survives a Sunshine Coast summer.

A 30-piece Coast capsule — note how much of it is linen

Why most capsule advice fails up here

The standard capsule template assumes you need a wool coat, a trench and boots that see real weather. On the Sunshine Coast your 'winter layer' is a denim jacket and your coat gets worn maybe six times a year.

Heat and humidity change the maths. Pieces have to survive 80% humidity, salt air if you're near the beach, and air-conditioned offices that are somehow colder than outside.

So the capsule shrinks in some categories and grows in others. Fewer layers, more rotation tops, better fabrics.

The piece count that actually works

After 213 wardrobe audits, the number we keep landing on is 28 to 34 pieces for the core rotation — plus occasion wear and activewear stored separately. Less than 25 and laundry logistics take over your week. More than 40 and you're back to decision fatigue.

A capsule that needs washing every four days isn't a system, it's a chore.

The breakdown that works here: 8–10 tops, 4–5 bottoms, 3–4 dresses or one-pieces, 2 light layers, 3–4 pairs of shoes and a small event rail. Everything in a palette where any top works with any bottom.

Fabrics that earn their hanger

Fabric choice matters more than silhouette up here. The short list:

  • Linen and linen blends — the Coast default for a reason; creases are part of the look
  • Tencel/lyocell — drapes like silk, handles humidity better
  • Cotton voile and poplin — breathable work tops that still look sharp
  • Light merino — yes, wool — for air-conditioned offices, not outdoors
  • Skip heavy polyester — it traps heat and holds odour in humidity

If you want this mapped to your own wardrobe, that's literally what our wardrobe audit does — including which of your current pieces already fit the capsule.

Services behind the advice
